Cabinet Approves Work Directions for Nuclear Safety Center

The government has outlined the responsibilities of the Scientific and Technical Center for Radiation and Nuclear Safety, according to a report from the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan referencing a decree from the Cabinet of Ministers.

This new institution will be responsible for developing documents and recommendations related to radiation safety, as well as participating in the preparation of relevant state programs and international projects.

The center will issue licenses for handling radioactive materials. Its employees will also be tasked with creating and maintaining databases on nuclear safety.

The center will operate under the Committee for Industrial, Radiation, and Nuclear Safety, which is part of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan.

Kursiv Uzbekistan also reports that Uzbekistan will implement a strategy for managing nuclear waste.
