Uzbekistan Receives Cancer Treatment Drugs For Children From WHO
Uzbekistan and Mongolia are receiving shipments of medicines to combat childhood cancer, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
The medications are being delivered via a global platform with the support of the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (USA). Ecuador, Nepal, and other countries will also receive the drugs.
These countries will receive the medicines on an ongoing and free basis. The initiative plans to include six more countries in the future.
According to WHO’s plan, 5,000 children will receive cancer treatment this year. In the future, the initiative aims to extend to 50 countries, with an expected 120,000 children with cancer benefiting from the support.
«The unique partnership between WHO and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital aims to provide paediatric hospitals in low- and middle-income countries with high-quality medicines,» commented WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
The cancer treatment platform was established by WHO and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in 2021. It includes various countries and representatives from the pharmaceutical industry.
