Tensions remain high along the India-Pakistan border. On the night of May 8, Pakistani forces opened fire with small arms and artillery along the Line of Control, according to Indian news agency ANI.
In the morning, several explosions were reported in the Pakistani city of Lahore. Preliminary reports indicate that an Indian reconnaissance drone was shot down over the city. Residents heard blasts near the airport and in central districts. Witnesses also saw smoke rising above the Naval College building.
Despite these incidents, the overall intensity of hostilities has eased. Schools and universities in Pakistan have resumed classes, while emergency services in border areas remain on high alert.
Recent figures show that Indian strikes on Pakistan have left 31 people dead and about 50 injured. Among the dead are the wife, sister and nephews of Masood Azhar, the leader of the Islamist group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
India has reported 13 civilian deaths and 43 injuries as a result of Pakistani attacks.
Relations between the two countries deteriorated sharply after a terrorist attack in Kashmir on April 22, when separatists killed a group of tourists.
On the night of May 7, India carried out airstrikes on targets in Pakistan. Indian officials said the strikes targeted only terrorist infrastructure.
