President Donald Trump has announced plans to reduce the cost of prescription and other pharmaceutical drugs in the United States by 30–80%. The statement was made via his social media platform, Truth Social.

Trump said he would sign what he described as one of the most important executive orders on May 13. He claimed the move would save the country trillions of dollars.

According to Trump, drug prices in the US are significantly higher than in other countries, with some medications costing five to ten times more.

«For years, pharmaceutical companies have claimed that high prices were due to research and development costs—and that the ‘suckers’ in America would continue to bear the burden, for a very specific reason,» he wrote.

Prescription drugs are medications that require a doctor’s prescription and are taken under medical supervision.
