Tajikistan and China Expand Cooperation in Transport and Logistics

Tajikistan and China have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in transport and logistics following a bilateral meeting on 2 July during the 12th Meeting of SCO Transport Ministers in Tianjin.
The talks were held between Azim Ibrohim, Minister of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan, and Liu Wei, Minister of Transport of the People’s Republic of China. The two sides discussed a wide range of collaborative projects designed to improve cross-border connectivity, logistics efficiency and regional transit potential.
Key topics included the creation of vehicle maintenance facilities for electric cars in Dushanbe, allocation of temporary storage facilities in Kashgar for Tajik transport companies, and the construction of the Varshez–Kulma road section. Also on the agenda were plans to modernise the Kulma–Karasu border checkpoint and develop a logistics centre in Kulyab.
Both countries expressed interest in advancing the multimodal corridor linking China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Turkey and Europe, aimed at boosting regional trade. Tajikistan also voiced its intent to join the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway project, which is expected to serve as a major artery for goods moving between East and West.
Minister Ibrohim noted that cargo volumes between Tajikistan and China continue to grow annually, and he proposed increasing the number of permits for international road freight transport. The ministers also discussed progress on developing legal and regulatory frameworks to support bilateral cooperation in the transport sector.
China’s Transport Minister welcomed the proposals and expressed readiness to implement the necessary measures to support joint efforts.
Kursiv also reports that on June 30, a delegation from Uzbekistan led by Minister of Transport Ilkhom Makhkamov visited Kyrgyzstan’s Jalal-Abad region to inspect progress on the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway project.
