Uzbekistan Appoints First Ambassador to Serbia

Uzbekistan has appointed its first-ever ambassador to Serbia, Oybek Shakhavdinov, according to a statement by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić on social media. The diplomat formally presented his credentials to President Vučić, marking a significant milestone in bilateral relations between the two countries.
Serbian side welcomed the appointment, describing it as a step that would inject new momentum into the full range of Uzbek-Serbian cooperation. The move is seen as part of a broader effort to expand Uzbekistan’s diplomatic presence in Europe and deepen engagement with key regional partners.
Ambassador Shakhavdinov will reside in Budapest, serving concurrently as Uzbekistan’s envoy to Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia and Montenegro. He brings over two decades of experience in diplomacy, having worked within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2001.
Shakhavdinov is a graduate of the University of Birmingham, Tashkent State University of Law and the Moscow State Institute of International Relations. His appointment reflects Uzbekistan’s growing emphasis on diversifying diplomatic relations and strengthening ties across the Balkans and Central Europe.
