Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are officially engaged, with the Kansas City Chiefs player proposing to the singer in a private garden in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, nearly two weeks ago.
Kelce’s father, Ed, revealed to CNN affiliate WEWS that he had known of his son’s plans for months.
«They were about to go out to dinner when he suggested having a glass of wine outside,» he explained. «That’s when he asked her and it was beautiful. They started FaceTiming me, their mother and her family to share the news. To see them together is great.»
From Friendship Bracelet to Romance
The couple’s relationship began in September 2023 when Swift attended her first Kansas City Chiefs game to support Kelce. Their connection, however, can be traced back to a friendship bracelet. Kelce had crafted one with his phone number and hoped to give it to Swift at her Eras Tour concert.
Although he failed on that occasion, the gesture impressed Swift, who later described it as «metal as hell» in an interview with Time magazine. The two began meeting in secret, getting to know one another before Swift made her public appearance at Kelce’s game.
«By the time I went to that first match, we were a couple,» she said.
Their romance soon became the stuff of Hollywood scripts. Kelce joined Swift on stage during her London Eras Tour performance and the pair shared a kiss on the field after the Chiefs’ 2024 Super Bowl victory.
Public but Private Love Story
Though much of their relationship has remained off social media, the pair have shared select moments with fans. Swift posted a photo of the two alongside Prince William and his children during her London concert, while Kelce later uploaded pictures from their summer together. These marked the first time they acknowledged each other on Instagram.
The couple’s bond has been a source of fascination worldwide. Swift told Time that being public meant showing up for each other without concern for onlookers.
«We’re just proud of each other,» she said.
Kelce has also spoken about the intensity of dating someone under such a spotlight.
«She just keeps it so chill and cool,» he said on the Bussin with the Boys podcast. «I really started to fall for her because of how genuine she is with friends and family.»
A Proposal with Vintage Sparkle
In their recent appearance on Kelce’s New Heights podcast, both stars reflected on how Swift’s Eras Tour first drew them together. Kelce admitted he had been «captivated» by the performance and desperate to meet her afterwards, while Swift highlighted the «green flag» she noticed early on – Kelce’s loyalty and his ability to maintain close friendships.
Now the pair have sealed their commitment with an engagement ring. According to jeweller Laura Taylor of Lorel Diamonds, the piece features a vintage-style design with an old mine-cut diamond estimated at 10 to 12 carats set in yellow gold.
