Alejandro Garnacho has joined Chelsea from Manchester United in a £40 mln deal, ending a troubled spell at Old Trafford. The 21-year-old winger fell out with head coach Ruben Amorim after being benched for May’s Europa League final loss to Tottenham, later describing United’s season as «s***.»

Amorim had already warned him in training to «hope you have a good agent this summer,» according to The Athletic, while United inserted a 10% sell-on clause in the transfer.

Club captain Bruno Fernandes previously questioned Garnacho’s attitude, saying in 2022:
«On the tour he did not have the best attitude. That’s why he didn’t get his chance until now. He’s getting his chances because he’s training better.»
The Argentine’s conduct has also drawn criticism from pundits. Jamie Carragher slammed him for being on his phone in the stands during a Chelsea match, while former United defender Paul Parker called his behaviour «disrespectful,» accusing him of «sticking two fingers up at the club that nursed him.»

Despite the controversy, new Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca hopes to harness Garnacho’s talent and give him a fresh start at Stamford Bridge.
