Authorities in Los Angeles have identified the body of a teenage girl discovered inside an abandoned Tesla reportedly registered to the rising singer-songwriter d4vd.

The remains, confirmed by the county medical examiner as those of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas, were found on September 8, at a tow yard in Hollywood. Rivas, who went missing in April 2024 at the age of 13, is believed to have been dead inside the car for an extended period. Police are treating her death as a homicide, although the exact cause has not yet been determined.

Her body was wrapped in plastic and was so badly decomposed that it was not fully intact and was first reported to authorities because the car started to emit a «foul odor.»

The vehicle, abandoned in the Hollywood Hills and later impounded, drew attention after a foul odour was reported. Officers opened the boot to find a bag containing human remains. Media outlets say the Tesla is registered to d4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, though authorities have not accused him of involvement. His representatives say he is cooperating fully with the investigation.

Connection between Rivas and d4vd

Reports in local outlets and on social media suggest Rivas and the singer had been acquainted since 2022 and may have been in a relationship. Her mother has confirmed that her daughter had been seeing someone named David before her disappearance. Online, fans have noted photographs, videos and even matching tattoos linking the two, as well as an unreleased track reportedly dedicated to Celeste.

The discovery has raised further controversy due to the music video for d4vd’s viral hit Romantic Homicide, which was released on Rivas’s birthday and contains lyrics about killing a lover.

D4vd, a Houston-born artist who first gained attention on TikTok, rose to fame with hits such as Romantic Homicide and Here With Me. Signed to Darkroom and Interscope, he had been on a US tour when the body was found but has since cancelled upcoming performances, including a show in Seattle.

Police executed a search warrant at a Hollywood Hills residence where the singer had been staying. For now, the investigation continues into how Rivas’s body ended up in the car and whether anyone will be held responsible for her death.
