Fabio Cannavaro Appointed Head Coach of Uzbekistan National Football Team

Italian coach Fabio Cannavaro has agreed to take charge of Uzbekistan’s national football team, the country’s Football Association announced.

Cannavaro arrived in Tashkent on Monday, October 6, with his coaching staff and also met with Timur Kapadze, the team’s former manager. The Italian had previously declined offers to lead both Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.

Playing and Coaching Career

Born on September 13, 1973 in Naples, Cannavaro began his playing career in the early 1990s with Napoli. He later played for Juventus, Real Madrid and Al-Ahli.

His professional coaching career started in China with Guangzhou Evergrande from 2013 to 2014. He also briefly managed the Chinese national team in 2019.

Most recently, Cannavaro was head coach of Dinamo Zagreb from 2024 until April this year, leaving the Croatian side while it was placed third in the national league.
