Lokomotiv Moscow secured a 3–0 victory over CSKA in the 12th round of the Russian Premier League on October 18.

The match, held at Lokomotiv’s home ground, saw goals from Aleksei Batrakov (17’), Dmitry Vorobyov (45+3’) and Nikolai Komlichenko (88’). Vorobyov scored the highlight goal of the match with a strike from an almost impossible angle. With 26 points, Lokomotiv lead the standings on goal difference over Krasnodar, while CSKA, on 24 points, remain third.

Lokomotiv will face Akron Tolyatti away on October 26, while CSKA host Krylia Sovetov the day before.

Match Rundown

The army side went into the match missing three key players – Igor Akinfeev, Moises and Mateus Alves. Vladislav Torop started in goal, with Matvey Lukin and Henrique Carmo added to the line-up. Coach Fabio Celestini surprised many by deploying Milan Gajić at left-back and shifting João Victor to the right.

Both teams started aggressively, creating chances from the opening minutes. Lokomotiv took the lead midway through the first half after Batrakov capitalised on a defensive lapse, driving a powerful long-range effort past Torop. CSKA responded with dangerous attacks before the break, but failed to score.

In stoppage time, Vorobyov punished another Torop mistake, keeping the ball in play near the byline and scoring from a near-zero angle – a stunning effort that left even his teammates in disbelief.

Celestini reshuffled his defence at half-time, but Lokomotiv’s compact shape and swift counter-attacks continued to trouble CSKA. Despite Torop’s key saves, Lokomotiv dominated possession and chances. Late in the match, Daniil Barinov broke down the left and set up Komlichenko for the team’s third goal.

The win also marked the return of Sergei Pinyayev from injury. Lokomotiv outshot CSKA 25–11 (7–4 on target), underlining their control throughout. With this victory, Mikhail Galaktionov’s side have established themselves as title contenders in the 2025–26 season.

Kursiv also reported on an earlier sensational match of Lokomotiv against Dynamo, where the former scored five goals in the added time.
