Netflix and Sony have confirmed plans for a new animated KPop Demon Hunters movie, with the musical sequel scheduled for release in 2029, according to Bloomberg. The extended timeline reflects the lengthy production process typical for animated films, though dates may shift depending on progress.

The original film, developed and produced by Sony Pictures Animation, follows a fictional K-pop girl group that battles demons through their music. Released directly on Netflix under Sony’s licensing agreement, it became the streaming platform’s most-watched movie to date. Several tracks from the film, including «Golden,» «Your Idol» and «Soda Pop,» have charted on Billboard’s Hot 100 and could receive Grammy nominations.

The movie’s popularity even prompted Netflix to bring a sing-along version to cinemas, where it earned approximately $18 mln over two days and $5–6 mln around Halloween, despite being widely available for streaming.

Co-director Maggie Kang, who worked on the first film alongside Chris Appelhans, has long advocated for a sequel. She told Variety in July that the original film left many storylines and backstories unexplored due to its 85-minute runtime, setting the stage for future adventures in the franchise.
