A court in Hamburg has sided with Russian businessman Alisher Usmanov in a defamation case involving a German citizen who had alleged on Facebook that Usmanov hid his wealth in a Swiss bank under his sister’s name. Usmanov’s lawyer, Joachim Steinhofel, confirmed the ruling on Wednesday.

The court found the accusations, which previously contributed to sanctions imposed on Usmanov and his relatives, to be unsubstantiated. Steinhofel noted that the EU has already removed Usmanov’s sister, Saodat Narzieva, from its sanctions list, admitting her inclusion was a mistake.

According to Usmanov’s representatives, similar claims circulated in 2022 played a key role in prompting EU and UK sanctions against Narzieva.

The defendant repeated the allegations in September 2025, again claiming Narzieva was the beneficiary of Credit Suisse accounts. The court ruled the statements false and banned further dissemination. Violations could result in fines of up to €250,000 or administrative detention.

Kursiv Uzbekistan reports that Usmanov’s annual dividend income had grown by 20.4%.
