Uzbekistan Set for Mild Start to Winter Before Severe Cold Spells

Uzbekhydromet released a preliminary forecast for the upcoming winter in Uzbekistan. December is expected to be slightly warmer than average, with mean temperatures 1–1.5° above normal. Early in the month, nights will range from 0 to +5°, while daytime highs reach +10 to +15°.

In the second half of December, temperatures will become more variable. Night-time readings could range from +2…+7° down to 0…–5°, and daytime temperatures from +12…+17° to +2…+7°. Precipitation is expected to be near or slightly below average.

January is predicted to be close to long-term averages, though some regions may experience slightly colder conditions. During the first two decades, night temperatures could fluctuate between +3…+8° and –3…–8°, with daytime highs varying from +10…+15° to –2…+3°.

Towards the end of the month, a sharp cold spell is expected. Night-time temperatures in most regions may drop to –12…–17°, while days could see –5…–10°. In Nukus and Urgench, frost may reach –20…–25°.

February will start with continued cold conditions, with nights at –5…–10° and daytime temperatures between –3 and +2°. By the second half of the month, temperatures are expected to rise significantly, reaching +3…+8° at night and +10…+15° during the day.

In southern regions, daytime temperatures could locally reach +20°. Precipitation in February is expected to remain within normal limits.
