Uzbekistan and Japan’s JBIC Discuss New $10 Bn Projects

As part of the business programme of his official visit to Tokyo, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with Nobumitsu Hayashi, Governor of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC).
The meeting focused on key issues related to the further expansion of Uzbekistan’s strategic partnership with the leading Japanese financial institution. Both sides noted the strong momentum in cooperation in recent years, with the total portfolio of joint projects now exceeding $5 bn. These projects cover sectors including petrochemicals, energy, telecommunications, infrastructure and light industry.
Particular attention was given to the preparation of new initiatives and improving the effectiveness of ongoing projects valued at more than $10 bn. Priority areas include energy, transport, IT infrastructure development, healthcare modernisation and other strategic sectors.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of increasing investment to support public-private partnership projects in the social sphere, as well as promoting private sector growth.
Mr Hayashi praised the results achieved through the partnership and voiced JBIC’s support for the wide-ranging reforms being implemented under Uzbekistan’s New Uzbekistan development agenda.
