From January 1, 2026, Kazakhstan will take over the chairmanship of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has addressed leaders of member states, outlining the country’s priorities for its leadership term.

Kazakhstan plans to share expertise in artificial intelligence, digital regulation and economic transformation. The country also aims to support innovation, digitalisation of industry and agriculture, and fund breakthrough projects across the union.

A key priority is to speed up the movement of goods within EAEU countries, reducing bureaucratic barriers and delays. Trade within the union is expected to be barrier-free, with restrictions and prohibitions removed.

The EAEU under Kazakhstan will also expand cooperation with external partners, strengthening economic ties with the Global South, the Arab world, Southeast Asia and Africa. This is designed to boost regional trade and investment.
