Pacquiao and Mayweather Set for September Rematch in Las Vegas
Boxing icons Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather have agreed to face each other again in a professional rematch scheduled for September 19, at the Sphere in Las Vegas. The bout will be broadcast live on Netflix.
Mayweather, 48, confirmed last week that he would return from retirement for a fourth time. It will mark his first professional contest since his 10th-round technical knockout victory over Conor McGregor in 2017. Since then he has taken part in several exhibition bouts.
Pacquiao, 47, stepped away from boxing in 2021 to pursue a political career but returned to the ring last July in a draw against WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios, who retained his title.
The pair first fought in 2015 in Las Vegas in a bout billed as the «Fight of the Century», still regarded as the most lucrative contest in boxing history. Mayweather won by unanimous decision, maintaining his unbeaten record.
Stakes, Records and What Comes Next
Details including the weight class and number of rounds for the rematch have yet to be confirmed.
Pacquiao, a 12-time world champion across eight weight divisions, said fans had waited long enough for a second meeting.
«I want Floyd to live with the one loss on his professional record and always remember who gave it to him,» he said.
Mayweather, who turns 49 this week and boasts a perfect 50-0 record with 27 knockouts, dismissed the challenge.
«I already fought and beat Manny once. This time will be the same result,» he said.
Mayweather is also due to face Mike Tyson in a separate event later this year. Tyson, the former undisputed heavyweight champion, returned to the ring in November after 19 years away in a controversial defeat by Jake Paul.
Their 2015 clash drew a record 4.6 mln pay-per-view purchases and generated a live gate of $72 mln at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Further details about tickets and the undercard are expected in the coming weeks.
