Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Uzbekistan, held a phone call on Wednesday with Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, to discuss regional security and the safety of Uzbek citizens in the Gulf state.

During the conversation, Mirziyoyev expressed Uzbekistan’s solidarity with Qatar and support for efforts aimed at maintaining the country’s security and stability. He also condemned recent actions by Iran, stating that such attacks violate principles of good neighbourliness, international law and the United Nations Charter.

The Uzbek president also thanked the Qatari leadership for its attention to Uzbek citizens living in Qatar and for ensuring their safety amid the current tensions.

In response, Sheikh Tamim confirmed that all residents in Qatar, including Uzbek nationals, remain safe and are receiving full protection and support from the state.

Both leaders stressed the need for de-escalation, restraint and diplomatic dialogue to resolve regional disputes and preserve stability.

Separately, Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov held a telephone conversation with Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi. The two officials discussed the evolving regional situation and agreed that dialogue and diplomacy should remain the primary tools for addressing tensions.

Saidov also expressed condolences over the loss of civilian lives and warned that further escalation could have serious humanitarian and security consequences for the region.
