A free comeback concert by BTS in central Seoul next week could attract as many as 260,000 people, according to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety of South Korea.

The performance on March 21 will celebrate the group’s first new album in more than three years ahead of a global tour scheduled to begin in April. The one-hour event will take place between Gwanghwamun Square and City Hall and will be streamed worldwide on Netflix to audiences in 190 countries.

Around 22,000 people holding free tickets will attend inside the main concert area, but the surrounding space will remain open to the public, Interior Minister Yun Ho-jung said.

Authorities plan to deploy roughly 4,800 police officers along with about 3,400 city officials and staff from related organisations to manage crowds, emergency services and security operations.

Officials said safety measures will include structural inspections before the event, a real-time joint command centre and immediate clean-up after the concert. Multilingual guides, medical stations and nearly 900 public toilets in nearby buildings will also be available for visitors.

Security planning has been intensified following the Seoul Halloween crowd crush, which killed 159 people and prompted stricter safety measures for large public gatherings.
