Uzbekistan and India’s Rupa & Company Ltd are exploring plans to establish a joint knitwear production venture in the Central Asian country.

The proposal was discussed during a meeting in West Bengal between Uzbekistan’s ambassador to India, Sardor Rustambaev and Ramesh Agarwal.

Talks focused on potential cooperation in textile manufacturing and the creation of joint production facilities in Uzbekistan.

Rupa is one of India’s largest knitwear and innerwear producers, manufacturing more than 8,000 apparel products for men, women and children and exporting to markets across Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas.

According to company representatives, Uzbekistan offers an attractive destination for investment due to its business environment and incentives for foreign investors. The company is considering partnering with an existing textile factory in the country as a base for expanding into Central Asian and Commonwealth of Independent States markets.

Industry experts say the potential partnership could strengthen Uzbekistan’s textile sector by introducing new production technologies, creating jobs and expanding export opportunities.

Both sides agreed to carry out a detailed assessment of manufacturing facilities in Uzbekistan as the next step toward implementing the proposed project.
