Minecraft Theme Park to Open at Chessington World of Adventures in 2027

Merlin Entertainments has revealed plans for a £50 mln Minecraft World attraction at Chessington World of Adventures, due to open next year, BBC reports.
Concept images show a rollercoaster, dining areas and interactive exhibits based on the blocky landscapes and iconic creatures of the video game.
Chessington, located about 30 minutes outside London, was chosen to attract both international and local visitors. The project marks the latest collaboration between Merlin, which also owns Alton Towers and Thorpe Park, and the Minecraft brand.
Immersive Design and Community Input
The attraction will feature Minecraft mobs including pigs, Creepers and zombies, as well as track experiences lined with TNT blocks. Minecraft content creators such as Grian, Aimsey, DanTDM and LDShadowLady have toured the planned site, helping to showcase the park’s design.
Kayleen Walters, Head of Mojang Studios, said fan demand for Minecraft experiences prompted the partnership.
«We know people want more of Minecraft. They want to be immersed in it in different ways,» she said.
The creative team has built parts of the park in the game and worked with the Minecraft community to ensure authenticity.

Visitors can expect a fully immersive experience where they can «smell and taste and feel and touch» elements of the game, Walters added.
Merlin Eyes Long-Term Investment
Angela Jobson from Merlin said discussions on the project date back eight years and insisted the park will be «game changing» for Chessington. She emphasised that the company continues to invest in other parks and that Minecraft represents a unique opportunity rather than diverting funds.
Minecraft World aims to appeal to both existing fans of the game and general park visitors. Jobson acknowledged competition from Universal Studios UK, set to open near Bedford in 2031, but said it would be «positive for the visitor economy in the UK.»
