Chappell Roan has issued a response after Brazilian footballer Jorginho Frello accused a member of her security team of behaving «extremely aggressively» towards his 11-year-old daughter at a hotel in Sao Paulo.
Footballer Describes «Very Sad Situation»
Frello shared a statement on Instagram on Saturday describing what he called a «very sad situation» involving his wife and daughter, who were staying at the same hotel as the singer, who performed at Lollapalooza Brazil over the weekend.
According to Frello, his daughter spotted Roan during breakfast but did not approach her.
«She just passed by the singer’s table, looked over to confirm it was her, smiled, and went back to the table with her mom. She didn’t say anything, didn’t ask for anything,» he wrote.
He alleged that a member of Roan’s security confronted the child in an «extremely aggressive» manner, accusing her of «disrespect» and «harassment», and threatening to lodge a complaint with the hotel.
«My daughter got super scared and cried a lot,» Frello added.
The claims sparked backlash on social media, with the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro also commenting on X that Roan would not be invited to perform at a future city event.
Singer Denies Involvement And Issues Apology
Chappell Roan addressed the incident on Sunday in a video posted to her Instagram Story, offering an apology while clarifying that the individual involved was not part of her personal security team.
«I’m just gonna tell my half of the story of what happened today with a mother and child who were involved with a security guard who is not my personal security,» she said. «I didn’t even see. I didn’t even see a woman and a child. Like, I did not. No one came up to me. No one bothered me.»
She added that she had been unaware of the interaction and had not instructed anyone to approach the family.
«It’s unfair for security to just assume someone doesn’t have good intentions when they have no reason to believe because there’s no action even taken,» Roan said.
The singer, who has previously spoken about maintaining boundaries with fans and photographers, stressed that she harbours no ill feeling towards supporters.
«I do not hate people who are fans of my music. I do not hate children. Like, that is crazy,» she said. «I’m sorry to the mother and child that someone was assuming something… You did not deserve that.»
Chappell Roan has previously drawn attention for addressing her relationship with fame, including a moment during Paris Fashion Week when she was filmed asking paparazzi and autograph seekers to respect her space.
