While the F1 calendar takes a brief pause in April, Max Verstappen and Lance Stroll are swapping their open-wheel challengers for high-performance GT machinery to keep their racing instincts sharp (or just to race on real engines).

If you are wondering when and where you can catch them behind the wheel during the F1 hiatus, here is exactly what to expect this month:

Lance Stroll takes on Paul Ricard

  • Dates: April 11–12
  • Event: GT World Challenge Europe
  • Location: Circuit Paul Ricard, France
  • The Car: Aston Martin Vantage GT3

Before returning to his usual Formula 1 duties, Lance Stroll is set to tackle the highly competitive GT World Challenge Europe. Driving for his familiar manufacturer, Stroll will pilot an Aston Martin Vantage GT3 around the iconic Circuit Paul Ricard in France.

Max Verstappen’s Nurburgring challenge

  • Dates: April 18–19
  • Event: Nürburgring 24 Hours Qualifiers
  • Location: Nurburgring Nordschleife, Germany
  • The Car: Mercedes-AMG GT3

Just a week later, four-time F1 World Champion Max Verstappen will head to one of the most punishing and legendary circuits on the planet. Verstappen is officially entered for the Nurburgring 24 Hours Qualifiers.

In an interesting shift from his Red Bull F1 seat, the Dutchman will be taming the «Green Hell» behind the wheel of a Mercedes-AMG GT3. Known for his relentless passion for motorsport outside of F1, Verstappen’s real-world entry into the qualifiers is guaranteed to be a major draw for racing enthusiasts.

McLaren adds to the Nurburgring action

Verstappen will not be the only Formula 1 presence at the Nordschleife in April. McLaren is also scheduled to hit the treacherous German circuit this month to carry out a dedicated tyre testing programme on April 14-15.

While the rest of the F1 paddock enjoys a rare opportunity to rest, the ongoing development work for the British outfit and the competitive side quests for Stroll and Verstappen prove that for some, the off-week is just an excuse to burn rubber somewhere else.
