Streaming service Hulu will reboot The X-Files, Deadline reported. The lead roles in the project will be played by Himesh Patel and Danielle Deadwyler.
The creators of the reboot did not seek replacements for the original actors — David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson — so the new cast will play entirely new characters. According to the plot, their characters are two FBI agents transferred to a long-closed department investigating paranormal phenomena.
The pilot episode is written and directed by Ryan Coogler, known for films such as Black Panther and Sinners. The project’s showrunner is Jennifer Yale, known for her work on Dexter and Outlander.
It is still unknown whether actors from the original cast will appear in the reboot. However, Gillian Anderson has already read the pilot script and described Coogler’s vision as “damn cool.
