Production for the highly anticipated cinematic adaptation of the smash-hit video game Elden Ring is officially underway.
Acclaimed independent studio A24 is currently leading the extensive filming process on location in London ahead of a scheduled worldwide premiere in March 2028.
Recently, the internet was set ablaze when a trove of leaked photographs and videos surfaced from the tightly guarded set. Paparazzi managed to capture striking images of actress Emma Laird, recently known for her work in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.
Adorned in lavish regal attire and flanked by an entourage of nobles and heavily armed guards, it appears almost certain that Laird is stepping into the role of the realm’s supreme ruler: Queen Marika the Eternal.
In addition to the still photographs, a brief leaked video clip showcases a grim practical set piece featuring the public hanging of the infamous Dung Eater. Fans of the punishing action role-playing game will instantly recognise the terrifying adversary.
In a massive nod to the source material, the filmmakers appear to have meticulously recreated the execution scene to perfectly match early concept art released by the original developers.
Journalists on the ground also snapped pictures of the film’s lead actor, Kit Connor. While A24 has kept the specific details of his protagonist strictly under wraps, eagle-eyed franchise devotees quickly identified his costume. Connor was spotted wearing the distinctive leather and metal garments of the Confessor, which serves as one of the starting classes in the game.
Based on the pristine condition of the costumes, the royal pageantry and the pre-shattered state of the world depicted in the leaks, analysts strongly suspect the film will serve as a direct prequel. This points to a narrative set during a golden age of relative prosperity for the Lands Between long before the realm descended into its signature apocalyptic chaos.
