Uzbekistan’s aviation industry is set for a major upgrade as the International Air Transport Association prepares to open a permanent office in Tashkent and introduce its global financial settlement system.

Strategic move for aviation growth

The new office will establish IATA’s direct presence in Uzbekistan, allowing closer cooperation with airlines, airports and regulators. The organisation also plans to launch its Billing and Settlement Plan (BSP) in the country before the end of 2026.

The BSP system simplifies financial transactions between airlines and travel agents, helping improve efficiency and global distribution of air services.

Strengthening global connectivity

Industry experts say the initiative will support Uzbekistan’s ambition to become a regional aviation hub linking Asia, Europe and neighbouring regions.

IATA officials highlighted that Uzbekistan is a rapidly growing market for both passenger and cargo traffic, with strong potential for further expansion.

Improving standards and operations

The presence of IATA is expected to accelerate the adoption of international safety and operational standards across the country’s aviation sector.

The move will also provide airlines with more efficient financial processing tools and improve coordination within the global aviation network.

Economic impact

Aviation already contributes to Uzbekistan’s economy through jobs and connectivity, and authorities expect the new initiatives to further increase its role in economic growth and international trade.

Analysts say the combination of infrastructure development, regulatory reforms and international partnerships positions Uzbekistan as an emerging aviation hub in Central Asia.
