Green Party Leader Faces Backlash Over Antisemitism Row and Police Criticism
UK Green Party leader Zack Polanski is facing growing criticism over comments linked to antisemitism debates and his reaction to a recent police operation following a stabbing attack in London.
The controversy intensified after Polanski reshared a social media post criticizing police officers involved in the arrest of a suspect accused of stabbing two Jewish men in the Golders Green area of north London. Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mark Rowley publicly rebuked the Green leader, saying the comments undermined officers responding to a dangerous situation.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also criticized Polanski, calling his remarks «disgraceful» and arguing that officers were forced to make split-second decisions amid fears the suspect could have been carrying explosives.
Polanski later apologized for sharing the post, saying social media was not the appropriate place to debate police tactics during an active investigation. However, the incident renewed scrutiny over antisemitism allegations involving Green Party candidates and internal party debates over Israel and pro-Palestinian activism.
The row comes amid heightened tensions in the UK following a series of antisemitic attacks and growing political debate over protests, policing, and community security.
