Gina Carano Reveals 100-Pound Weight Loss Ahead of Fight with Ronda Rousey

The stage is set for a historic moment in women’s mixed martial arts. Pioneers Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano have both successfully weighed in for their highly anticipated clash, headlining Netflix’s first-ever live MMA event this Saturday.
The legendary fighters tipped the scales in Inglewood, California on Friday morning. The 39-year-old Rousey (12-2) weighed in comfortably at 142 pounds. Her opponent, 44-year-old Carano (7-1), registered at 141.4 pounds for the bout, which was officially contracted at a 145-pound featherweight limit. The milestone event, promoted by Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions, will take place at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.
A journey back to the cage
Shortly after stepping off the scale, Carano took to social media to share the staggering physical toll required to make this superfight a reality. In an emotional and deeply candid post, the former The Mandalorian actress revealed she had to lose an astonishing 100 pounds over the past year and a half.
«I just weighed in at 141.4 lbs. Since Sept 2024 to today, May 15, 2026, I have lost 100lbs,» Carano wrote to her followers. «It hurts to say that and share but I am going to share it because I worked so damn hard every week for over a year and a half to shed this weight. It did not happen overnight.»
Carano opened up about the severe health issues that triggered her dramatic transformation, admitting she was «pre-diabetic» and «had trouble simply walking» back in September 2024. She detailed the grueling path to recovery, navigating plateaus and errors, to turn herself back into a professional athlete.
The MMA trailblazer also took a moment to express profound gratitude to her opponent. She thanked Rousey for waiting patiently while she shed the weight and credited the former UFC bantamweight champion for providing the «incredibly challenging goal» she needed to reclaim her health.
A card packed with legends
Saturday night represents a monumental comeback for both women, who are widely considered the two most influential figures in the foundation of women’s MMA. Carano has not fought professionally since a devastating loss to Cris Cyborg in August 2009. Meanwhile, Rousey, the woman who famously shattered the UFC’s glass ceiling, is making her first appearance since a December 2016 defeat to Amanda Nunes.
The historic main event sits atop a stacked card bursting with combat sports royalty. Fan-favourite UFC veterans Nate Diaz and Mike Perry are scheduled to meet in the co-main event after both comfortably making weight. Furthermore, heavy-hitting former champions Francis Ngannou and Junior dos Santos are also featured on the billing, ensuring an explosive night of action for Netflix’s global audience.
