Mango Founder’s Son, Jonathan Andic, Detained Over Father’s Cliff Fall Death

Spanish police have arrested the son of Mango founder Isak Andic as part of an ongoing investigation into the fashion tycoon’s fatal cliff fall in December 2024, Reuters reports.
The late billionaire plummeted more than 100 metres (328 ft) to his death while on a family hiking trip near the Mediterranean city of Barcelona. While authorities initially treated the tragic plunge as an accident, Catalan police subsequently launched a homicide probe after uncovering potential foul play.
A spokesperson for the family confirmed that Jonathan Andic was taken into custody on Tuesday and is facing questioning by detectives but refused to disclose further specifics. They reiterated that the family strongly believes in his innocence and emphasised that his cooperation with the authorities «has been and will remain total».
Last year the court overseeing the case stated that they were not targeting any specific suspect. However, a police representative has now indicated that the younger Andic will soon be transferred to an investigating court to give evidence before a judge. The details of the probe currently remain under seal.
Born in Istanbul, Isak Andic relocated to Spain’s north-eastern region of Catalonia in the 1960s. He established Mango in 1984 and transformed the brand into a global retail giant capable of rivalling Zara. At the time of his passing he served as the company’s non-executive chairman and boasted a net worth of $4.5 bn according to Forbes.
The privately owned Barcelona-based fashion empire recorded massive sales of €3.8 bn ($4.41 bn) in 2025. Jonathan Andic, who previously managed Mango’s retail operations, currently sits as the vice-chairman of the board.
