Trump Warns Iran over Stockpile of Enriched Uranium
U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a fresh warning to Iran over its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, insisting that Washington will not allow Tehran to retain material that could be used to advance a nuclear weapons program.
Speaking during ongoing negotiations aimed at easing tensions between the two countries, Trump said the United States is closely monitoring Iran’s nuclear assets and remains determined to prevent the country from gaining access to uranium that could be further enriched for military purposes.
The warning comes amid continued uncertainty over the whereabouts of parts of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile. A recent report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said inspectors have been unable to verify the current location and status of Iran’s uranium reserves since the outbreak of conflict earlier this year.
Iran has repeatedly rejected U.S. demands to transfer its enriched uranium abroad. Iranian officials and Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei have maintained that the country’s nuclear material must remain under Iranian control, a position that has become a major obstacle in negotiations with Washington.
The dispute over uranium stockpiles remains at the center of efforts to reach a broader agreement on Iran’s nuclear program, with both sides continuing talks despite deep disagreements over enrichment activities and sanctions relief.
