Pledis Entertainment confirmed on Tuesday that Seventeen members The8 and Vernon are joining forces to launch a brand new musical subunit named V8. The duo is scheduled to release their inaugural extended play, also titled V8, on June 29.
This latest venture marks the sixth official subunit to emerge from the popular South Korean boy band. They follow in the footsteps of previous successful pairings and groups including BSS, Jeonghan x Wonwoo, Hoshi x Woozi, S.Coups x Mingyu and DK x Seungkwan.
Musical themes and star collaborations
According to the management agency the upcoming eight-track EP will delve deeply into themes of personal growth and recovery that follow periods of wandering and past confusion.
The project is spearheaded by the lead single «singasong». Rooted in hyperpop, the electronic track was co-composed by the two idols alongside German DJ and producer Mechatok. The album also boasts a major international collaboration on the track «girlsnboys» which was written, composed and produced by 14-time Grammy Award winner Pharrell Williams working with longtime Seventeen producer Bumzu.
The remainder of the tracklist is rounded out by «Friend», «Beat», «Mia», «Coloring», «8DM» and a special digital-exclusive song titled «rat race».
Upcoming live performances
To celebrate their debut V8 will host their first standalone concerts at the KINTEX convention centre in Goyang just west of Seoul. The domestic shows are scheduled for 11 and 12 July. Notably this event will make history as the first Seventeen subunit concert to adopt a standing format for the audience.
Following their South Korean performances the pair will immediately take their new music overseas to perform for fans in Hong Kong from July 17 to 19.
