Pakistan has been ranked as the country most affected by terrorism, surpassing nations such as Afghanistan, Somalia and Iran, according to the latest Global Terrorism Index (GTI).

The report, published by the Institute for Economics and Peace, found that Pakistan experienced a sharp increase in terrorist activity, with attacks and fatalities rising significantly over the past year. The country’s deteriorating security situation was largely linked to the activities of militant groups operating along its border with Afghanistan.

The GTI also highlighted the growing concentration of terrorism in the Sahel region of Africa, which now accounts for a large share of global terrorism-related deaths. Countries including Burkina Faso and Niger remain among the nations most heavily affected by extremist violence.

Researchers noted that terrorism is becoming more geographically widespread, with the number of countries recording at least one terrorist incident increasing in recent years. While global terrorism deaths have declined from previous peaks, security experts warn that evolving extremist groups and regional conflicts continue to pose major threats.

The Global Terrorism Index evaluates countries based on the impact of terrorist incidents, including deaths, injuries, hostages and property damage, to assess the overall threat posed by terrorism worldwide.
