Ronaldo Makes History as Khusanov Own Goal Puts Portugal 4-0 Up

Portugal have mercilessly extended their lead over Uzbekistan to 4-0 following a disastrous second-half own goal from defender Abdukodir Khusanov in their World Cup Group K encounter.
The damage was well and truly done before the half-time whistle. Cristiano Ronaldo cemented his legendary status by netting his 10th World Cup goal to become Portugal’s all-time top scorer in the competition. The veteran striker nearly secured a first-half hat-trick deep into stoppage time but saw his close-range effort hooked off the line by Khusanov.
Both managers shuffled their packs at the break. Roberto Martinez introduced Nelson Semedo and Francisco Conceição for João Cancelo and Pedro Neto while Fabio Cannavaro brought on Khojiakbar Alijonov and Akmal Mozgovoy in a desperate bid to stem the relentless Portuguese tide.
However, the second half brought no relief for the Central Asian side. Portugal continued to dominate possession and create golden opportunities. In the 60th minute, Bruno Fernandes delivered a beautifully disguised chipped pass to Ronaldo but the Al-Nassr star drove his powerful shot straight into the goalkeeper’s gloves.
The resulting corner proved fatal for Uzbekistan. João Félix attempted a speculative first-time volley from the right edge of the box. The ball inadvertently struck the chest and arm of the unfortunate Khusanov before ricocheting into his own net to make it 4-0 in the 61st minute.

With a massive deficit to overcome and legs tiring rapidly in the Texas heat, Cannavaro’s men face a grim final half-hour against a Portuguese side that shows absolutely no signs of slowing down.
