The City Council of La Plata in Argentina has unanimously voted to grant the South Korean pop phenomenon BTS the esteemed title of «Guests of Honour». This prestigious accolade arrives just before the band’s highly anticipated live shows in Buenos Aires scheduled for this October.

In Argentina the «Guest of Honour» designation is a formal civic award bestowed upon notable international visitors to recognise their significant cultural, scientific or social contributions. The local council passed the resolution on Thursday following a passionate proposal from the regional fan community known as BTS La Plata Oficial.

Documents presented to the Culture Committee highlighted that the band’s influence stretches far beyond their chart-topping music. The accolade formally acknowledges their success in fostering a deep appreciation for the Korean language and culture amongst local young people as well as the numerous charitable projects spearheaded by the dedicated local Army fanbase.

This official civic recognition perfectly sets the stage for the group’s upcoming residency at the Estadio Unico de La Plata. The band is set to take the stage on October 21, 23 and 24. While organisers initially planned for just two performances a third date was quickly added to accommodate the phenomenal public demand for tickets.

These upcoming concerts represent a significant milestone for the region as they will be the very first time the entire group has performed together in Argentina. Furthermore the highly awaited shows mark the band’s first return to South America since embarking on their massive «Arirang» world tour in April.
