Police reported no arrests as the demonstration unfolded under heavy security during America's 250th Independence Day celebrations

Hundreds of masked members of the white nationalist group Patriot Front marched through Washington, DC, on 4 July, coinciding with celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence. Wearing matching blue shirts, khaki trousers and white face coverings, demonstrators carried Patriot Front and Confederate flags while chanting slogans including «Reclaim America.»

The group gathered near Union Station before marching towards the U.S. Capitol and later leaving the city via the Metro system. Washington’s Metropolitan Police monitored the demonstration and said no arrests or major incidents were reported, stressing that authorities remained committed to protecting public safety while respecting constitutional rights to peaceful assembly.

The march also attracted counter-protesters and sparked widespread debate on social media after images showed commuters sharing Metro carriages with the masked demonstrators. The rally renewed scrutiny of Patriot Front, a group founded in 2017 following the Charlottesville «Unite the Right» rally that has been identified by civil rights organisations as promoting white supremacist and anti-immigrant ideologies.

U.S. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum condemned the group’s beliefs while defending its right to demonstrate under the First Amendment, describing such events as part of a «messy democracy.»
