BTS Drops Restroom Teaser for Upcoming Normal Music Video Premiere

Big Hit Music has released a teaser for «Normal», an upcoming music video from BTS’s latest studio album «Arirang», ahead of its exclusive Spotify premiere this Friday.

The music video will debut on the audio streaming platform at 1 p.m. KST on July 17. The release coincides with the launch of three new audio versions of the alternative pop track, including an instrumental and a Korean-language edition that the band previously debuted during a live concert in Busan. A wider video release on the Hybe Labels YouTube channel will follow at 1 p.m. KST on July 19.

To build anticipation, the label released a short video preview late Wednesday night. Set entirely inside a public restroom, the footage depicts all seven band members standing side by side at a row of urinals. According to a statement from Big Hit Music, the unconventional setting strips away the group’s polished stage personas to provide an unfiltered look at their everyday lives.

Viral newspaper advertisements

The digital teaser also resolved a mystery surrounding cryptic advertisements recently placed in prominent American print publications. Readers of The San Francisco Chronicle and The New York Post spotted campaigns formatted to look like standard editorial headlines. The ads featured the phrase «Some have questioned whether the situation was entirely normal» printed next to a photograph that the label has now confirmed is a still frame from the upcoming music video.

«Normal» has already resonated commercially. Following its initial release, the track debuted at No. 41 on the Billboard Hot 100 in April. Its parent album «Arirang» recently ranked No. 25 on the Billboard 200 after holding the top spot for three consecutive weeks. The album’s lead single «Swim» also extended its run on the Hot 100 chart to 16 consecutive weeks.

Exploring the psychological weight of fame

Lyrically, «Normal» addresses the severe emotional toll of A-list celebrity status. The verses feature members RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook reflecting on their decade in the spotlight. In the opening lines, Jimin sings about the struggle to maintain authenticity under intense public scrutiny, questioning the narrative forced upon them by outside observers.

The chorus explicitly references the surreal nature of their massive success, with the artists comparing their global fame to a chemical-induced fantasy. Long-time listeners will also recognise a deliberate callback to the group’s original name, Bulletproof Boy Scouts, as the singers describe becoming «bulletproof» against both love and hate.

In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, group leader RM acknowledged the song’s mature themes. He noted that establishing a new tone after spending years apart remains a significant challenge. RM expressed vulnerability regarding the band’s current era, admitting he felt apprehensive about convincing established fans to embrace their evolving musical chapter while simultaneously attempting to reach new audiences.
