South Korean singer IU has cancelled her upcoming September concert and postponed the release of her sixth studio album due to a worsening chronic ear condition.
On July 20, the artist shared a letter with her supporters on the fan platform Berriz to explain the sudden schedule changes. She was originally slated to perform at Goyang Stadium in September as part of a broader domestic tour. The entire concert series has now been cancelled because of severe complications from patulous Eustachian tube dysfunction.
The condition causes the Eustachian tube to remain open, which can lead to autophony where a person hears their own breathing and voice echoing loudly.
The pop star admitted she had pushed herself too hard over the past few years without considering her physical well-being. Following medical advice, she determined that the intense physical activity and heavy sweating associated with live stadium performances would be too taxing for her current state.
New album rollout delayed
The sudden cancellation has significantly affected her broader promotional schedule for the year. Although IU confirmed she has already finished recording her sixth studio album, the record’s release will be delayed by several months. Her management agency, EDAM Entertainment, had structured the main promotional cycle entirely around the now-cancelled stadium concert and accompanying tour dates.
The agency released a supplementary statement prioritising the artist’s recovery, noting that while the condition does not severely impact her daily life, she needs adequate time to rest before returning to the stage.
The singer expressed deep regret over the situation while assuring fans she remains committed to her upcoming projects.
She also expressed her determination to focus on treatment and start 2027 alongside her fans once she has fully recovered.
