Eldor Shomurodov Nominated for World Cup Goal of the Tournament
Uzbekistan international Eldor Shomurodov has been nominated for the FIFA World Cup Goal of the Tournament following his early strike against DR Congo.
The governing body shortlisted 12 goals from the global competition. Shomurodov secured his place on the list after finding the net in the 10th minute during Uzbekistan’s 3-1 defeat to the African side at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on June 28.
Fans can cast their votes for their favourite finish on the official tournament platform between July 20 and July 27. The Uzbek forward faces strong competition for the award from prominent international stars. Other notable contenders include Argentina’s Lionel Messi for his effort against Algeria, England midfielder Jude Bellingham for a goal against France and Norway’s Erling Haaland for his strike against Brazil.
Beyond the goal of the tournament, FIFA also highlighted individual athletic performances from the competition. Abdukodir Khusanov earned recognition for his impressive pace on the pitch. The Uzbek defender recorded a top speed of 36.46 km/h, securing sixth place in the overall tournament rankings for the fastest players.
France captain Kylian Mbappe officially registered as the quickest player of the competition. Swedish winger Anthony Elanga finished second with a recorded speed of 37.16 km/h while Dutch defender Micky van de Ven placed third at 36.77 km/h.
