SCAT Airlines Enters Freighter Market Using Converted Boeing Jet
Boeing will convert one of SCAT’s passenger jets into a full-fledged freighter, enabling one of Kazakhstan’s largest airlines to pivot into the air cargo market.
Boeing has announced a contract to modify a 767-300ER into a Boeing Converted Freighter (BCF) version for SCAT at the 2026 Farnborough International Airshow.
Featuring the same airframe and avionics, the BCF is capable of carrying up to 57 tonnes of cargo over a range of 6.000 kilometres. It has the load capacity for 444.3 cubic metres, including 24 pallets on the main deck, according to Boeing.
Once added to the fleet, SCAT will be able to capitalise on growing demand for e-commerce and general cargo shipments between Europe, Asia and the Middle East, the announcement said.
«With southern Kazakhstan’s hub potential, established partners in China, Türkiye and Europe, and Boeing performing the 767-300BCF conversion, this long-term program directly supports the task set by the President of Kazakhstan to establish the country as a leading Eurasian aviation hub,» said Vladimir Denisov, the president of SCAT Airlines.
Back in 2024, Shymkent International Airport, which handles the bulk of SCAT flights, was entrusted to the airline’s management, Kursiv reported.
The converted aircraft will be able to carry up to 57 tonnes of cargo over a range of 6,190 kilometres (3,345 nautical miles). It has capacity for 444.3 cubic metres of freight, including 24 pallet positions on the main deck.
In Central Asia, the 767-300BCF is already being flown by Uzbekistan Airlines. The country’s flagship carrier completed the conversion in 2014.
