Apple has officially designated the iPhone X and the 2018 15-inch MacBook Pro as obsolete.
This classification marks the end of official hardware support, component availability and manufacturer repairs for the 10th-anniversary smartphone nearly nine years after its initial launch. Devices are relegated to the obsolete products list more than seven years after the technology company stops distributing them for retail sale.
Once a product enters this category, it is no longer eligible for hardware service at official Apple locations or through authorised repair centres. Technicians are also entirely unable to order official replacement parts to fix broken units.
Final OS upgrade
The transition to obsolete status follows the conclusion of software support for both devices. The iPhone X received its final operating system upgrade with iOS 16.7.16. Meanwhile, the 2018 15-inch MacBook Pro saw its software lifespan conclude with the release of macOS 15.7.7.
While smartphone users face a definitive end to component replacements, Mac owners carry a slight exception to the standard repair cutoff. Apple states that Mac products may remain eligible for battery service for up to 10 years from the date they were last sold provided the necessary components remain in stock.
The iPhone X represents a significant milestone in mobile hardware as the device that introduced Face ID and fundamentally altered modern smartphone aesthetics. Its move into obsolescence serves as a definitive close to a major chapter in Apple’s product history.
