US President Donald Trump has welcomed the new defence agreement between Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan, giving his clearest public endorsement yet of an alliance that could reshape security ties across the Middle East and South Asia.

Trump has publicly backed the Saudi-Türkiye-Pakistan defence pact, calling it a «big, bold and important first step» towards stronger regional security.

«This shows how the Middle East is coming together and how countries will finally be able to defend themselves more effectively,» Trump wrote on Truth Social. He congratulated the three countries and called the agreement a significant first step.

His endorsement comes as the three countries begin turning the agreement into a more formal military framework built around collective defence, joint exercises and deeper defence-industry ties.

The Mecca Joint Defence Agreement, signed on 7 August, commits Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan to treat an armed attack on one member as an attack on all three – a clause that has drawn comparisons with NATO’s collective-defence principle.

From political pledge to military co-operation

Türkiye has since given more detail on how the pact is expected to work. The three nations are planning to establish high-level political and military coordination with the participation of their defence ministers, foreign ministers and senior military commanders, the defence ministry said.

There are plans for joint land, sea and air exercises, as well as co-operation in air defence, drones, electronic warfare and artificial intelligence. They also intend to boost ties in the defence industry through joint development, production and technology transfer.
