HMD has launched the Nokia 300 Charge, a button-operated feature phone that prioritises battery life above all else.
The handset packs a removable 3,700mAh battery, which HMD says can deliver more than 40 days of standby time or up to 37.9 hours of talk time. The phone can also send power to compatible devices at up to 10W, turning it into a basic power bank when needed.
The Nokia 300 Charge is priced at about $60, with black, green and sandstone finishes listed. HMD’s own specifications confirm a weight of 138 grams and dimensions of 136.55 by 55 by 14.94mm.
Nokia 300 Charge puts battery capacity first
The 3,700mAh cell is the main reason the Nokia 300 Charge stands out among conventional dumbphones. HMD calls it the largest battery it has put into a feature phone and says the handset can remain on standby for more than 40 days under its testing conditions.
For comparison, the current Nokia 3210 has a 1,450mAh removable battery and offers up to 9.8 hours of talk time. The Nokia 225 4G (2024) also uses a 1,450mAh battery, while the Nokia 105 4G (2023) has the same capacity and is rated for up to 12 days of standby time.
That provides the Nokia 300 Charge with the Nokia 300 Charge more than 2.5 times the battery capacity of those models, although the comparison is not a direct measure of real-world endurance because battery life also depends on network technology, software and usage.
The power-sharing function is the other unusual feature. A dedicated control activates reverse charging, while the included cable supports connections to devices using USB-C, USB-A and Micro USB adapters. HMD rates the output at 10W.
Basic hardware, unusually large battery
The Nokia 300 Charge uses a 2.4-inch QVGA display with a 320-by-240-pixel resolution, a Unisoc SC6531E processor and S30+ software. It has 4MB of RAM and 4MB of internal storage, with support for microSD cards up to 32GB. There is also a 3.5mm headphone jack and USB-C port.
Its camera is considerably more basic than those found on some competing Nokia feature phones. HMD lists a QVGA rear camera, while the Nokia 3210 has a 2MP camera and the Nokia 225 4G (2024) carries a 0.3MP sensor.
The Nokia 300 Charge also takes a different approach to connectivity. HMD’s published specifications list GSM 900/1800 bands and dual Mini SIM support, rather than the 4G connectivity offered by models such as the Nokia 3210 and Nokia 225 4G.
The phone also comes with a high-power LED torch that HMD says is up to four times brighter than the torch on the Nokia 105 (2023), based on the company’s internal testing.
