Apple is preparing to launch a new Mac mini in the coming days, potentially unveiling the desktop computer ahead of its anticipated iPhone 18 Pro event in September. This launch is expected to be the final product introduced under Tim Cook‘s leadership before he steps down as chief executive on 1 September.
The upcoming desktop machine will likely serve as a kickoff for a new generation of Apple silicon. While the current Mac mini has not yet received an M5 processor, industry reports suggest the new model could be configured with either the M5 or the unannounced M6 chip. The tech giant is reportedly doubling down on the computer’s appeal as a capable machine for running local artificial intelligence models.
The release arrives as Apple navigates significant supply chain hurdles with its desktop lineup. The current Mac mini has faced stock shortages globally due to its popularity and widespread memory supply issues. In the United States, delivery estimates for the machine have stretched between four and 10 weeks.
To address these bottlenecks, Apple previously announced that Foxconn would begin assembling some Mac mini units at an advanced manufacturing centre in Houston later this year. Furthermore, Apple recently dropped the 256GB storage configuration, making the 512GB model the lowest-priced option available at $799.
Additional hardware updates in 2026
While the Mac mini is poised for an imminent release, Apple has several other product updates scheduled for the second half of the year under incoming chief executive John Ternus.
The company is expected to debut the fifth generation of its AirPods during the September product showcase. These wireless earbuds will reportedly launch in both standard and active noise-cancelling variants.
Following the audio updates, Apple plans to release a new iPad mini model featuring an organic light-emitting diode display by late October. The transition to OLED technology will provide the tablet with improved image quality, richer colours and a higher contrast ratio with true blacks compared to the existing liquid crystal displays. The updated tablet is also rumoured to feature a more powerful A19 Pro or A20 processor, supporting Apple Intelligence capabilities.
Further down the pipeline, Apple’s 2026 roadmap includes a new Home Hub tablet, an upgraded Apple TV 4K and a refreshed HomePod mini.
