Despite returning to the superhero genre to massive acclaim three years ago, Andrew Garfield maintains that his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is over for now.
The actor has firmly stated he will not appear in the upcoming ensemble blockbuster «Avengers: Doomsday» and confessed he has yet to watch the newly released «Spider-Man: Brand New Day».
During recent interviews, the Oscar-nominated star addressed ongoing speculation about his involvement in Marvel’s expanding multiverse. When asked about a potential cameo alongside Tobey Maguire in the next Avengers instalment, Garfield gave a blunt denial.

His dismissal comes amid rampant online rumours that previous web-slingers might return to confront the latest existential threats to the cinematic universe.
However, audiences remain deeply sceptical of the British actor’s claims. Garfield famously spent the entirety of 2021 repeatedly misleading journalists and fans about his involvement in «Spider-Man: No Way Home».
He vehemently denied any participation before eventually surprising cinema-goers by appearing alongside Maguire and current franchise lead Tom Holland. That highly secretive crossover propelled the film to a staggering $1.9bn at the global box office.
Track record of secrecy fuels fan theories
Because of that historical campaign of misdirection, fans now scrutinise every statement he makes regarding comic book adaptations. The actor has previously acknowledged this reality, admitting that the public is unlikely to trust his superhero denials ever again.
The post-credits scene of «Spider-Man: Brand New Day» has only intensified speculation by hinting at multiverse complications that will unfold in «Avengers: Doomsday». This narrative thread naturally led audiences to suspect another reunion of alternate-universe heroes.
Meanwhile, Holland’s latest solo outing has continued the franchise’s commercial dominance. The latest Spider-Man feature premiered in July to widespread critical praise and massive financial returns.
Despite his personal connection to the character and his vocal support for Holland’s portrayal, Garfield admitted he simply has not managed to see the new cinematic release yet.
Andrew Garfield originally debuted as Peter Parker in 2012’s «The Amazing Spider-Man» before his tenure abruptly ended following an underperforming sequel two years later. While he has previously expressed a willingness to don the spandex again if a concept felt culturally additive and unique, he currently insists that no such return is actively in development.
