Uzbekistan posts its first ambassador to Syria
Newly appointed Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Syria, Ayubkhon Yunusov, has presented his credentials to Syrian Foreign Minister Assad al-Shaibani.
Based in Kuwait City, the Uzbek diplomat met with senior government officials in the Syrian capital to map out a path for renewed bilateral engagement. During the introductory discussions, the Syrian administration emphasised its commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships across Central Asia, with particular emphasis on Tashkent.
Both representatives underscored a shared desire to intensify political dialogue and scale up trade and economic exchanges. The formal talks focused on identifying specific priority areas to revitalise long-term relations between the two countries.
Expanding economic and political frameworks
Key agenda items included laying the groundwork for an official Uzbek-Syrian Intergovernmental Committee dedicated to trade and economic cooperation. Additionally, the diplomats explored establishing a structured political consultation mechanism between their respective foreign ministries to streamline future diplomatic coordination.
Al-Shaibani acknowledged Uzbekistan’s historical support and assistance, expressing a strong willingness to evaluate active initiatives put forward by Tashkent. The meeting concluded with both sides renewing their dedication to building consistent high-level communication channels, facilitating mutual state visits and expanding collaborative efforts across multiple sectors of mutual interest.
