K-pop star Hoshi from the group Seventeen has sustained a serious knee injury while completing his mandatory military service. The singer announced on Thursday that he suffered a complete tear of his anterior cruciate ligament during a rehearsal session.
The artist shared the news directly with fans via the Weverse platform. He explained that the injury occurred while practising with the Ground Forces performance team. A subsequent medical examination confirmed the complete ligament tear.
Hoshi stated he will undergo surgery and subsequently dedicate his time to recovery. The injury forces him to withdraw from upcoming military events he had been preparing for. These include scheduled performances with the Taekwondo Demonstration Team and the Ground Forces Festival taking place next month.
The singer expressed profound disappointment about missing the stages he had eagerly anticipated. He also urged fans to continue supporting his fellow soldiers and his bandmate Woozi who will still participate in the events.

Recovery process and military discharge speculation
The singer enlisted as an active-duty soldier in September last year. He was reassigned to the newly established Army Taekwondo Demonstration Team in January. Since then he has performed at various national events including the March 1st Independence Movement Anniversary cultural event. His scheduled discharge date is March 15, 2027.
A complete ACL tear typically requires reconstructive surgery. While patients can often resume daily activities within six weeks recovery for strenuous physical routines like intense choreography generally takes between six months and a year.
The severe nature of the injury has prompted speculation regarding Hoshi’s military status. Soldiers who undergo surgery for a completely ruptured ACL during active duty become eligible for a medical discharge review. The result of this review could potentially lead to an early conclusion of his military service. Fans have voiced deep concern online given his role as Seventeen’s performance team leader and main choreographer.
