Siri AI: what Apple devices are compatible and why
Apple has launched Siri AI alongside the release of iOS 27, delivering an overhaul to its digital assistant. Check out our list to see if your device is compatible.
The system update introduces advanced on-device AI processing as a major highlight of the new operating system. The most powerful on-device models are heavily restricted to newer hardware, which means that older products lack the necessary architectural requirements to support the upgraded features.
Smartphone and tablet requirements
For mobile users, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are the first models that support the new features. The standard iPhone 15 models lack the necessary processor upgrades to participate. Tablet compatibility follows a similar requirement for advanced silicon. Siri AI is fully operational on the following mobile and tablet devices:
- iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max
- iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16e, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max
- iPhone 17, 17e, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max
- iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max
- iPhone Air
- iPhone Duo
- iPad Pro (M1 chip and later)
- iPad Air (M1 chip and later)
- iPad mini (A17 Pro)
Desktop, wearable and vision integration
Mac computers share the identical baseline as the larger tablets, running natively on modern Apple silicon. Wearables represent a unique category within the ecosystem, as smartwatches require active pairing with an AI-supported iPhone to access the new features. Supported ecosystem hardware includes:
- Apple Vision Pro (all models)
- Mac models featuring Apple silicon (M1 chip and later, as well as the A18 Pro chip)
- Apple Watch Series 9 and later
- Apple Watch Ultra 2 and later
- Apple Watch SE 3
Premium hardware exclusives
While the aforementioned devices can successfully run Siri AI, certain premium features remain strictly exclusive to select hardware.
Specifically, the ability to fully customise the pace and expressivity of the digital assistant’s voice is restricted to devices that are equipped with Apple’s most robust on-device AI models. Apple noted that users with these specific models may or may not experience faster overall performance when interacting with Siri AI.
This bespoke voice customisation requires at least 12 gigabytes of unified memory on computers and tablets. Consequently, this advanced functionality is locked to the following premium models:
- iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max
- iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max
- iPhone Air
- iPhone Duo
- Mac models with the M3 chip and later (minimum 12GB unified memory)
- iPad models with the M4 chip and later (minimum 12GB unified memory)
- Apple Vision Pro (M5 chip)
