Apple reveals $19 hinge fix for foldable iPhone Duo

Apple‘s highly anticipated foldable device, the iPhone Duo, has not yet reached consumers, but the tech giant has already detailed its repair pricing scheme.
A persistent concern for foldable smartphone adopters is the visible crease on the internal screen. Apple appears to have anticipated this user frustration by offering an inexpensive solution to refresh the display’s appearance once the device hits the market on October 23.
Replacing the cover layer will cost users a mere $19. This allows customers who find the hinge crease increasingly prominent or scratched over time to simply swap out the top protective film rather than paying for a full display replacement.

The pricing page outlines several other repair fees under the company’s premium AppleCare coverage plan. Battery service is entirely free, while fixing front display damage or back glass damage costs $29. This suggests Apple is subsidising routine maintenance to encourage consumer confidence in a notoriously fragile product category.
Hardware repairs and premium design
More extensive hardware failures command higher premiums. Severe inner display damage is priced at $99 alongside an identical $99 fee for other accidental damage. Customers facing the theft or loss of their device will incur a $149 replacement charge.
The iPhone Duo features a titanium chassis alongside Apple’s proprietary Ceramic Shield on both its front and rear panels. Unfolding the 5.2-millimetre thick device reveals a 7.6-inch primary screen that relies on ultra-thin glass components supplied by Lens Technology to achieve its flexible form factor.
Despite Apple claiming that its new optical adhesives and nanotexture finish help minimise physical stress on the folding mechanism, early hands-on leaks have confirmed that the crease remains visible.
