During the opening of the 9th meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) Board of Governors in Samarkand, President Jin Liqun emphasised the importance of enhancing connectivity within Asia and between Asia and other parts of the world.

He underlined that improving connectivity within Asia and between Asia and the rest of the world is crucial for the region’s development. Central Asia is an excellent example of how connectivity can positively transform local communities. The region’s history as a trading hub for over 2,500 years further emphasises the significance of investing in cross-border projects to foster economic growth and prosperity.

He mentioned that the AIIB is working towards boosting the percentage of cross-border projects to 35% of the total annual financing by 2030.

The AIIB president also mentioned that the bank is collaborating with the ADB and the ASEAN Infrastructure Fund on a three-year program to enhance connectivity in the ASEAN member countries.

“Now we are working with partners to create similar initiatives in Central Asia,” he said.

Kursiv Uzbekistan also reports that AIIB is interested in developing infrastructure for electric cars in Uzbekistan.
