The Ambassador of the United States of America (USA), Jonathan Henick, visited Khojeyli town in Karakalpakstan to inspect the renovated structure of Khalif Yerezhep‘s mausoleum, as reported by the country’s diplomatic mission in Uzbekistan.

The US embassy had previously allocated $80,000 to preserve the site, and the funds were channelled through the International Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICAS).

Henik stated, “The preservation of the Khalifa Yerezhep Mausoleum is a testament to the strong partnership between the United States and Uzbekistan. We are honoured to support Uzbekistan’s efforts to preserve its rich history for future generations.”

The embassy also noted that the mausoleum underwent initial surveys, including 3D scanning and radiocarbon analysis. Information boards about its history were installed near the site, and an audio guide was developed.

The mausoleum of Khalifa Yerezhep dates back to the 12th century.

The US Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation, established in 2001, has supported $1.3 million worth of restoration, preservation and protection of 15 sites.

Kursiv Uzbekistan also reports that an ancient burial site was found while laying a road in the Tashkent Region.
